Path of Exile 2 (PoE2 for short), the successor to the popular action RPG, is scheduled to come into early access on Steam and PS5 in 2024. MeinMMO provides all information about the release, the system requirements and whether the game works on the Steam Deck.
When is Path of Exile 2 coming? The release of Path of Exile 2 in Early Access is on December 6th, 2024 at 8:00 p.m. According to game director Jonathan Rogers, the game will remain in early access until at least May 2025, but the final test phase should not last longer than 2025.
The action RPG was originally supposed to start in a beta, but it is now clear that the game will initially be available in early access on Steam, via the Epic Games Store, the in-house PC client, PS5 and XBOX.
When will the full version be released? The full release of the game is scheduled to take place between six and twelve months after the start of the early access phase. A release can therefore be expected between May 2025 and December 2025.
What does Path of Exile 2 Early Access look like? PoE2 will initially be in early access for an indefinite period of time. This means that the game is not yet released with all functions and will gradually be further developed.
When asked whether fans could download the game before the start of early access in order to be able to get started in time, the developers answered with a PC client. This is scheduled to start on December 6th at 2 a.m. German time so that you can download the Path of Exile 2 beta before it starts.
Xbox already has a preload and PlayStation follows suit as soon as there are 24 hours left until the start of the beta (via pathofexile.com).

PoE2 on console: PS5, XBOX and Steamdeck
Which consoles will it appear on? Path of Exile 2 is coming to PS5. To play it on the Playstation 5, however, you need a PlayStation Plus subscription.
PoE2 will also appear on the XBOX Series X|S. To play on Xbox, you need an Xbox Game Pass Core subscription or an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
Is Path of Exile 2 on PS4? No, PoE2 will not appear on the Playstation 4. However, the game is available for the successor PS5.
Do you have to buy PoE2 to play it? Path of Exile 2 will initially only be available to backers who have purchased a package for at least €30. Once the game is released as a full version, it will be available to everyone for free.
In addition, you are eligible to participate in Path of Exile 2 Early Access if you have purchased a top-tier Supporter Pack in the past or have invested $480 or more in its predecessor, Path of Exile (on a single platform, over the entire game time ) have invested.
Can you play Path of Exile 2 on the Steam Deck? Yes, Path of Exile 2 will work on the Steam Deck. Current test versions run well in 40 FPS mode, as game director Jonathan Rogers revealed in an interview with MeinMMO.
Do I need a new account? PoE and Path of Exile 2 run on the same account. If you have already registered an account for Path of Exile, you will also find your EA access for Path of Exile 2 there. In PoE2 you also have access to all microtransactions made from PoE.
The classes in Early Access and Genderlock
With the early access start, the following six classes are available to you in Path of Exile 2:
Is there gender lock? As in its predecessor, Path of Exile 2’s classes are predefined characters that can hardly be customized. For example, you cannot change the default gender again. A witch is always female, a monk is always male.
Will there be a passive tree again? Yes, the large passive skill tree will be available again in Path of Exile 2. The developers told us that this will be different from the tree of its predecessor and will be even larger. However, you should still receive additional skill points through level-ups and quests over the course of the game.
What else is known about the scope? According to the developers, you can expect an extensive campaign with three acts, 50 bosses, 400 monster types and various endgame content. More information about this here:

What do you have to consider? Path of Exile 2 system requirements may change over the next few months. Because the action RPG is currently (as of November 2024) still a so-called “early access” title.

The developers know that your graphics card must have at least 3 GB of VRAM to start the game.

Couch co-op, cross-progression and crossplay
Does Path of Exile 2 support couch co-op? In May 2024, the developers announced the special platform features of Path of Exile 2. These include couch co-op. So you can sit in front of a platform with a friend and hunt for prey as a couple. In couch co-op, you can move through different menus such as the inventory or the talent tree at the same time.
Does Path of Exile 2 support cross-play and cross-progression? These two features are also supported by Path of Exile 2.
