[Mis à jour le 4 mai 2022 à 11h42] THE LATEST NEWS – Each year, only two out of three disciplines are selected for the college patent science test. These three disciplines are physics-chemistry, life and earth sciences or technology. For the DNB (National Patent Diploma) version 2022, the two selected disciplines were communicated by the Ministry of National Education at the beginning of May, following a draw. The science test for the 2022 patent will thus be based on:
- for the general series: life and earth sciences and technology
- for the professional series: physics-chemistry and life and earth sciences.
Each science subject is worth a reminder of 25 patent points. The test closes the 2022 college patent and lasts only one hour.
The national examination for the college certificate takes place at the end of June / beginning of July in 2022. It is spread over two days (see the exact dates here). In terms of the DNB (National Patent Diploma) tests, school candidates work on four written and one oral. Final tests scored out of 400 points, which complete the continuous assessment of mastery of the common base, also scored out of 400 points. In total, the college certificate is therefore evaluated on 800 points… with a total of 400 points to be obtained to obtain it! (more than note details here)
88% success rate at the previous patent result
During the previous edition of the exam, the college certificate was characterized by a pass rate of 88%, with little change in this rate following the “replacement” session in mid-September. Of the nearly 840,500 candidates who worked on the certificate, 739,400 third-grade students obtained their diploma. A slightly lower rate (-2.4 points) compared to that of the previous year. In 2020, the Covid epidemic had indeed led to total continuous control. In 2021, although confined to the spring, the students took the exam in June under normal conditions. The 2021 pass rate for the college patent is therefore rather to be compared with that of the 2019 session, which amounted to 86.5%.
A sort of dress rehearsal, the white patent allows students to prepare for the exam and the necessary instructions to follow.
For school candidates in an establishment, the oral test for the patent is organized within the establishment itself between April 15 and the last day of the written tests. The written examinations for the national patent diploma (DNB) take place on Thursday June 30 and Friday July 1, 2022 for the normal session and Monday September 12 and Tuesday September 13, 2022 for the replacement session.

- from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.: grammar, comprehension and dictation
- from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.: writing
- Thursday afternoon June 30: mathfrom 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Friday morning July 1: History-geography and EMC (moral and civic education), from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- Friday afternoon July 1:

The patent defense oral test lasts 15 minutes. His goal ? Allow the candidate to present orally:
- be one of the objects of study addressed in the context of art history teaching
- or one of the projects carried out during the interdisciplinary practical lessons of cycle 4
- or one of the projects carried out as part of one of the educational paths followed (Future; citizen; health education; artistic and cultural education)
Why are we talking about a defence? As the website of the Ministry of National Education Eduscol specifies, the idea is to “evaluate the candidate’s ability to display the knowledge and skills he has acquired, in particular within the framework of the teaching programs of the history of the arts and of all the disciplines that will have contributed to nourishing this defence.”
Candidates have the choice between taking the test individually or in a group (of a maximum of three candidates), but they are, in all cases, assessed individually.
The oral is divided into two stages:
- a presentation (5 minutes)
- an interview with the jury (10 minutes).
NB: in the event of a collective presentation, 10 minutes of presentation precede 15 minutes of jury/group discussions.
The oral grade is divided into 100 points, as follows:
- Proficiency in oral expression (50 points)
- Mastery of the subject presented (50 points)
In the academies of metropolitan France, the written tests take place in the following order:
- written French (3 hours)
- mathematics writing (2 hours)
- written history-geography-moral and civic education (2 hours)
- written science (physics-chemistry, life and earth sciences, or technology – 2 out of 3 disciplines) (1 hour)
- foreign language writing for individual candidates (1 hour 30 minutes)
The patent dictation is worth 10 points. Students have 10 minutes to put it down on paper. They are told whether the narrator is a man or a woman.

The patent is noted on 800 points, and it is necessary a minimum of 400 points to obtain it. the continuous monitoring is taken into account in the marking, including projects carried out in class, like the EPI (Practical Interdisciplinary Teaching). The number of points per subject works as follows: 10 points for “insufficient” mastery; 25 points for “weak” skill, 40 points for “satisfactory” work and 50 points for “very good” skill. If the student has collected 50 points everywhere, he has accumulated the maximum possible for the continuous assessment part of the certificate, ie 400 points (as a reminder, this is half of the total points for the diploma). The final tests therefore represent “only” half of the total scale of the patent each year. There are five (four written and one oral), scored out of 400 points.
The evaluation of the common base is done on eight skills, each evaluated in the school report through four levels of points:
- 10 dots for “insufficient” control
- 25 dots for a “fragile” mastery
- 40 dots for a “satisfactory” mastery
- 50 dots a “very good” mastery
The patent oral is scored on its own out of 100 points, like the written French test and the written mathematics test, scored out of 100 points each. Written history-geography and moral and civic education (EMC) tests; and science are each assessed on 50 points. It is possible to earn up to 20 more points if an optional option has been followed.
The three mentions of the certificate correspond to the following levels of points obtained:
- Mention quite well : over 480 points
- Mention good : over 560 points
- Mention very good : over 640 points

Each year, the results of the patent are revealed at the beginning of July, on dates which differ slightly according to the academies.

If there is no patent catch-up as is the case for the baccalaureate, a replacement test is planned in September, for individual candidates and those who could not be assessed by continuous assessment. Candidates admitted can only recover their official diploma at the start of the school year from their former college.
