Patch 10.1.5 is huge, bringing Mega Dungeon, new Caller Specialization, and Mage rework

The next patch of World of Warcraft brings massive innovations. We’ll tell you what’s in patch 10.1.5.

Patch 10.1.5 should actually only be a “smaller” update again, but Blizzard doesn’t seem to take the message that seriously anymore. In the next patch of World of Warcraft Dragonflight there are countless innovations and fresh ideas that not only expand Dragonflight, but affect the entire game world.

All of the announcements related to the 10.1.5 Rifts in Time patch, including the datamining finds, are covered in this article.

the essentials in brief:

  • Patch 10.1.5 does not have a fixed release date yet.
  • Callers get a new specialization, “Reinforcement.”
  • The Dawn of the Eternals Mega Dungeon has 8 bosses and is only playable on Mythic.
  • Mages are getting a major update with a focus on Arcane Mages, but Fire and Frost are also getting an overhaul.
  • Dragon Riding will probably be unlocked in the old world.
  • When will patch 10.1.5 be released? There is no official release date for Patch 10.1.5 Cracks in Time yet. The release is indicated on the roadmap as “Summer 2023”. If Blizzard sticks to the current pace of patch releases, then a likely date would be late June or early July. As soon as there is a fixed date, we will post it here.

You’ll have to raise the little dragons soon.

New Mega Dungeon: Dawn of the Eternal

The heart of the patch is a mega dungeon – a particularly large dungeon with a total of 8 bosses that is only available in a mythical version.

The story of the dungeon is the progression of the Infinite Dragonflight. This finally tries to complete the transformation of Nozdormu into the sinister Murozond. The mega dungeon is stuffed with lots of cool ideas and huge threats from different timelines.

For example, encounters include the mighty Iridikron or the remains of the giant dragon Galakrond. A corrupted version of the guardian Tyr is also part of the dungeon.

The true highlight for fans of the dragon story, however, may be “Morchie”. This is the “evil” variant of Chromie, which will also play a role in the dungeon.

As usual, the dungeon will likely be split into two separate Mythic+ variants in a later patch.

“Morchie” is the “evil” variant of Chromie.

    New Caller specialization: Reinforcement

It’s been speculated for a long time, now it’s guaranteed: Callers get a third specialization: Reinforcement. This is a new DPS specialization that can significantly boost all other characters in the party. For example, it grants powerful buffs to the primary values or ensures that part of the damage caused is dealt again with a delay.

We have more about the new Rufer specialization here.

    Callers get a third specialization.

Puppy Nursery: New glory faction with cute baby dragons

In Valdrakken there is the “small scale crib”, which is currently of little use. There are many new quests here in patch 10.1.5, because the dragons have laid more eggs than they can care for! Raising a total of 5 little dragon pups, you’ll learn about the different dragonflights while gaining fame (and some new rewards for sure).

More details will surely be revealed in the coming weeks.

disentanglement of the streams of time

For max level play, Blizzard has announced some new timeline-related features.

“Time Rifts” appear on Azeroth, causing creatures from other timelines to cross over to this world and be fought back. The hole must then be sealed to secure the timelines again.

Frontier of the Aeon is repeatable content that requires players to fix bugs caused by the instability. There should be “plenty of reward”.

    Warlocks for all (except Dracthyr)

Blizzard continues with the plan to unlock most classes for all races. Next up is the Warlock, which will be unlocked for all the missing races. Even if this has led to some discussions in the community, Blizzard is apparently sticking to it. The new warlock races are then:

  • night elves
  • draenei
  • Lightforged Draenei
  • pandaren
  • Kul Tirans
  • tauren
  • Highmountain Tauren
  • Mag’har
  • Zandalari Troll
  • The only exceptions are Dracthyr, as always. They remain exclusive callers.

Night Elf Warlock. A dream for many, a nightmare for others.

    Mages get a big rework

Mages have been in an odd position for a while, and all three specs aren’t exactly happy. So Blizzard is giving all three specializations a rework that comes with a horrible announcement: Rune of Power is going away entirely, and the power is being built into other spells by default.

Otherwise, Blizzard wants to provide more talent diversity, create new end talents and want to ensure that you can form a magician according to your wishes and not just have to play “the one, optimal variant”, as is currently the case.

So far only a few of these changes are active on the PTR, they will come in later versions of the update.

    Flying in the old world

This part should be taken with a grain of salt as it hasn’t been officially announced yet. However, data mining shows that Blizzard wants to enable kite flying in the old world (Azeroth and Kalimdor).

This is supported by numerous achievements, where you have to complete dragon races in the old world. There are also new skills that allow you to choose whether you want to use modern dragon riding or rather the “old” flying.

Also new is that dragon riding will probably be extended to other mounts. Because Blizzard has put many new animations for “old” dragons, such as the nether dragons, into the game files. It remains to be seen whether all mounts will ultimately be permitted for dragon riding – in any case, the number of usable dragons seems to increase significantly.

What else is in Patch 10.1.5?

Apart from these major adjustments, there are a number of small improvements that we have listed here:

  • Warlocks are getting a new visual customization for imps.
  • Warlocks can customize the appearance of their demons at the Barber.
  • The Garrison Hearthstone and Dalaran Hearthstone become toys, saving inventory space.
  • Old recipes from the original Naxxramas may be making a return, much like Zul’Gurub did.
  • We’ll update this article as more information becomes available about patch 10.1.5.
