Did I mix enough? Are the egg whites whipped? To resolve this situation, an American household appliance brand has integrated technology into its pastry robot capable of knowing when the dough is ready. No more relying on intuition to make the perfect cake.

Dosage to the nearest gram, attention at all times… It is often said that pastry is an art of rigour. However, it must be admitted that these principles apply above all to professionals, while less seasoned amateurs stick more to their intuition. When should you stop whipping egg whites? And when is the cake batter really ready? Should this whipped cream be firm? In baking, the lack of practice usually causes us to ask ourselves a whole host of questions about when to start or finish a task.

Pastry robot: cakes that will always be “perfect”?

You dreamed that the robot would know when to stop… The GE Appliances brand has done it. The American company, owned by the multinational Haier, has just unveiled a new “auto sense” technology that could well sculpt a whole new line of pastry robots. Depending on the recipes selected, the whisk (or the sheet to beat the pasta) is indeed able to recognize the texture of the preparation to know when the result is final. In other words, there is no longer the risk that you beat the dough too long. The robot knows when to stop.

This new technology further supports amateur cooks in their culinary tasks to guide them as closely as possible and ensure the success of their recipe. It is an extension of the multifunction cooking robots that have been on the rise in recent years. This equipment, which tells you how to cut fruits or vegetables and at what point in the recipe to add them, has structured a complete offer around the functionalities popularized by the famous Thermomix from the German group Vorwerk. The latest equipment in this section is connected in order to integrate recipes that consumers choose and then launch the preparation process.

In 2020, when the French rediscovered the pleasure of cooking during confinement, sales of connected robots exploded by 119%, according to Gifam, the professional union for household appliances, which is based on the figures from the Gfk institute.

NO to diets, YES to WW!

A pastry robot with multiple functions and recipes

In the United States, the new robot from GE Appliances does not fail to integrate recipes either. Initially, a dozen preparations are proposed, but others will be added as and when. The connection of the kitchen robot is all the more an essential functionality as the device is equipped with a voice command in order to guide it via Alexa from Amazon or Google Home.

For now, this GE Profile Smart Mixer is sold in the United States at a price of 999 dollars, or about 938 euros. It’s a safe bet that other brands will take inspiration from this new technology to keep amateur pastry chefs wanting to make their cakes more successful.
