Porcelain, memory clay according to Pascale Morin, ceramist. She shapes nature and welcomes us to her Parisian studio where she thinks and intuitively creates mineral and vegetal pieces. She works between her fingers the earth and the emotions.
When I make the petals of certain plants I try to make a piece, I mount it and I mount it almost by chance. I dry it, put it in the oven and see the result
” Between the idea and the moment when I get to work, it can last two or eight days. There are parts that take longer and those that I left out », declares Pascale Morin. She has only been a ceramist for about ten years. Before, she had different jobs in events, communication, illustration. His career is atypical, his work as a ceramist is inspired by nature, its tempo, its cycles.
The cycle of life is charged with emotions
She seeks to transcribe movement and above all emotion.
” I always wanted to show that in the emotions of the living, of degeneration, there is always something beautiful. Whether it is a birth or a death, this whole cycle of life is charged with emotions that are sublime. I worked on the traces, the journey. I found myself with extremely ethnic objects, between the star and the comet and then others like an aboriginal style. Once fired, these pieces almost looked like textiles. We have prejudices in particular on the physical traces which we have, which we do not accept, which we erase. Under what pretext it is beautiful or not us, I do not know! It responds to feelings, to an emotion, it affects us or not“says the ceramist.
You have to make yourself legitimate
Becoming a ceramist was a necessity, a need for Pascale Morin. A new job, a new area where she had to make herself known.
” You have to make yourself legitimate, you have to believe in it, take part in competitions, not pay attention to remarks that can be derogatory about age, not get discouraged, that’s all and go for it. The first time I did a competition was with the art school of Douai for small-form ceramics. I responded to this contest with the theme of birdhouses. A competition that carried me, being well exposed gave me confidence. Don’t hesitate even if I stumble, it doesn’t matter. You have to face difficult things and be as natural as possible“, concludes the ceramist, Pascale Morin.
