Party, protests and suspensions – this is what happens in Malmö during Eurovision

Over 100,000 visitors are expected in Malmö in the coming days – grand parties, shows and events are organized all around the city. But while the celebrations are going on, extensive protests are planned.

  • In central Malmö, a march will be held to protest against Israel being allowed to participate in the competition, the organizers have estimated that around 20,000 people may participate.

    At the same time – just a few blocks away, a demonstration is to be held in support of Israel.

    Closed streets and heavy security

    To carry out everything safely, the police have prepared meticulously. The effort is estimated to be one of the largest ever in southern Sweden. Personnel from large parts of Sweden have been called in and they are also supported by colleagues from Denmark and Norway.

    Bomb dogs have searched the arena as well as the hotels nearby, bag bans are in place at several events and certain streets and parking lots will be closed to traffic.
