Are you starting to think about New Year’s Eve meals and worry about the calories that are often associated with them? Don’t panic: it is possible to have fun while keeping an eye on nutritional balance. Advice from the experts.
According to surveys, the French take on average 1 to 2 kg during the end of year holidays (1.46 kg according to a YouGov survey of 2018). Fortunately, these pounds do not settle permanently if you quickly return to a balanced diet. Because, as the saying goes: “It’s not what you eat between Christmas and New Year’s Day that counts, but what you eat between New Year’s Day and Christmas!”
We learn to make choices
A part of foie gras and we are already at 215 kcal, a little capon and chestnuts and that makes 480 kcal more, a piece of pastry log on it, or 200 kcal, and we approach 900 kcal. Add the aperitif and alcohol and you go over 1000 or even 1500 kcal …
It is not a question of filling the mood, but to recall some edifying figures. Most holiday products are fatty, and even very fatty. So, to avoid a too heavy note, do not combine them, make choices and pair them with lighter dishes.
No question of restricting yourself but …
After half-confined parties last year, the French want to have fun and that’s normal. No question of restricting yourself. But it is possible to enjoy yourself by putting more fruits, vegetables and seafood on your menus, not forgetting physical activity and having recourse to digestive plants if necessary. The goal is to start the New Year full of vitality, without extra pounds or hangovers!
After the holidays: eat light according to your appetite
If we ate a little too much on New Year’s Eve and just want a soup the next day, we eat a soup. On the other hand, if you are a little hungry, you don’t deprive yourself: you have a plate rich in vegetables with fish or lean meat, a little starch (rice, quinoa, buckwheat …) according to your taste. appetite, and possibly a fruit for dessert.
If there are leftovers from the New Year’s Eve menu, we freeze them, we will enjoy it later. We also store the boxes of chocolates in the cupboard so as not to be tempted: “The best is to eat one chocolate a day at the end of the meal, so that we are less hungry and we are less tempted to take more. also bring the box to the office to share it with colleagues! “advises Nathalie Négro.
