Last Sunday, the French had not been so numerous to move since 1997. For the first round, the participation had reached more than 66 %and this figure could even be higher for the second round.

In its latest survey, the Ipsos institute estimates the average turnout at 68%. If this were confirmed, this would make these legislative elections the most followed by the French in over thirty years.

600,000 more proxies than in the first round

As proof of the renewed interest in the second round, the number of proxies has exploded again: 3.2 million according to the Ministry of the Interior, that’s 600,000 more than in the first round.

A figure that can perhaps be explained by the start of school holidays this Saturday in France. On the side of the French abroad, there is also mobilization since 460,000 of them have already voted online. This is unprecedented.

The second round of the legislative elections began with the opening of the first polling stations at 8:00 a.m. (12:00 p.m. in mainland France) in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon. Voters in Saint-Barthélemy, Saint-Martin, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyana, French Polynesia and those living on the American continent are also voting this Saturday.

See you tomorrow, Sunday at noon, for the first figures on the participation rate.
