The province of Utrecht had already issued the advice to avoid Den Treek, but according to a spokesperson, this had too little effect. Despite the advice, hikers and cyclists simply entered the area. The mayor of Leusden has therefore decided to close a core area to recreationists and visitors. The emergency order, which obliges the estate owner to close the terrain, takes effect immediately and lasts until August 15.
