With Die Hard, Bruce Willis and John McTiernan created an action monument. They repeated the same feat in the second part, but with part 3 they managed to set new standards. More exciting, funnier and breathless than its two predecessors: Die Hard with a Vengeance is on TV on Friday evening.
That’s what the TV tip Die Hard 3 is about
John McClane (Bruce Willis) is a washed-up cop with a drinking problem and a failed marriage, but also an illustrious past. This is now catching up with him in the form of a sadistic terrorist who has chosen the whole of New York as his playground. He threatens to blow up bombs in schools – if John McClane fails to solve his puzzles.
This is how a incredibly chaotic scavenger huntin which Bruce Willis races frantically through the city to save as many people as possible. He is supported by Zeus Carver (Samuel L. Jackson), who is unwittingly drawn into the situation and who, unsurprisingly, is not at all interested in the whole thing.
Die Hard 3 takes a different path than its two predecessors and it really pays off
Die Hard has quickly become an absolute cult film and one of the Blueprint for action films developed: A vulnerable, approachable man of the ordinary has to fight against entire hordes on his own and usually does so in a specific location. Be it a skyscraper like in the first part or an airport like in the second. From other films we know ships, buses, airplanes, the White House and so on.
Die Hard 3 aka Die Hard with a Vengeance fortunately says goodbye to this concept and shines with the ingenious idea of breathing fresh air and new life into the franchise through an absolutely disastrous scavenger hunt. Add to that another dazzling main character, Samuel L. Jackson’s Zeus, and the extremely explosive, funny and massively entertaining action blockbusters.
Less funny, but at least as exciting and with equally great action, comes the current Netflix surprise Rebel Ridge The film was streamed straight to number 1 in 88 countries and is one of the reasons why it is so popular is because the action blockbuster does not fall into the John Wick trap.
