After the incredible success of the first Harry Potter films, every studio in Hollywood took an interest for fantasy stuff, which regularly attract millions of viewers to the cinema. In the 2000s, we expected film adaptations of Narnia and Eragon. Another important title was Percy Jackson: Thieves in Olympus.

20th Century Studios (formerly 20th Century Fox) wanted to create their own Harry Potter with the Percy Jackson films. Director Chris Columbus, who had brought the first two years of Hogwarts school to the big screen, was even hired for the first part. But the series didn’t exist for long.

  • Today on TV: Percy Jackson 2: The Spell of the Cyclops airs today, May 27, 2023, at 10:25 p.m. on Sat. 1. The rerun follows on Sunday at 07:55 a.m. Alternatively, you can stream the film along with the first part on Disney+.

    Already after Percy Jackson 2: The Spell of the Cyclops it was over. The 2013 sequel marks that End of the fantasy series, which should actually get at least a third part. However, in the years following its theatrical release, it became clear that Percy Jackson 3 starring Logan Lerman would never be implemented.

    The nail in the coffin for the Percy Jackson films was that Reboot announcement: In May 2020, Disney confirmed work on the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, which will retell the story. The news was actually well received by many fans. Because this time, Percy Jackson creator Rick Riordan is directly involved.

    Riordan has indicated several times that he was not at all enthusiastic about the Percy Jackson films. He wants to do everything right in the series, which is being created exclusively for the Dsney+ streaming service. 2024 the new edition should celebrate its premiere. Season 1 consists of eight episodes and is based on the first book.
