Singer Rob de Nijs (82), who died yesterday, suffered from Parkinson’s. There are around 65,000 patients in the Netherlands and it is expected that this number will doubled over the next twenty years.
Parkinson’s is chronic and progressive. That means: a disease that is incurable and slowly moves. Vibrating, stiffness, fatigue are just a few symptoms. Medications and therapy can reduce the symptoms a little.
‘Parkinsonpandemie’ is called the enormous increase in patients. More and more young people also get the disease. Scientists have established a connection with, among other things, pesticides and crop protection products.
