After years of congestion and traffic congestion at the popular bathing sites, Umeå municipality has decided to introduce a parking fee at Bettnessand and Norrmjöle sea baths.
From 1 June, parking fees will be required at the municipal car parks. The hope is to avoid incorrect parking and increase the accessibility of emergency vehicles. At the same time, a parking ban will also be introduced along certain sections along Kläppuddsvägen and Bettnesvägen.
Congestion prevents emergency vehicles
– It is quite common for the car parks to be full when the weather is nice. Unfortunately, this has meant that motorists who come after it has become full choose to park in a way that leads to, for example, the rescue service and ambulance finding it difficult to get there when needed, says Sofia Åström, unit manager at the Leisure Administration.
Upab has been commissioned by Umeå municipality and the road associations in the area to implement the measures. The fee is set at SEK 8 per hour and a maximum of SEK 30 for one day. The fee will apply every day around the clock during the summer months of June, July and August.
According to communicator Jenny Brantholm, there are currently no plans to expand the current car parks.
