Parisians voted to ban electric scooters

Paris becomes the only major European city to ban electric scooters.

Paris voted very clearly in favor of banning electric scooters on Sunday.

of the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo according to the office, almost 90 percent of voters are in favor of banning electric scooters. Hidalgo has promised to respect the result of the referendum.

The voting result is a victory for road safety campaigns, but it is a big setback for electric scooter rental companies. The vote has no effect on electric scooters owned by private individuals. According to the Ministry of Transport, 700,000 of them were sold in France last year.

Paris was once a pioneer in the use of electric scooters, and the authorities wanted them to be an emission-free alternative for moving around the city. Now Paris will be the only major European city to ban them.

In the past, Montreal, Canada has banned both rented and privately owned electric scooters. Copenhagen, on the other hand, banned rental boards in 2020, but they were brought back a year later with stricter rules than before.

In Finland, the Ministry of Transport and Communications proposed a blood alcohol limit for electric scooters at the beginning of March. At the same time, parking on sidewalks and bike paths would be prohibited. It would be possible to put the proposed changes in the law into effect by the summer of next year.
