Paris Terry Fox Run breaks fundraising record

Wallaceburgs Terry Fox Run set for Sept 18

Participants in Sunday’s Terry Fox Run in Paris raised a record amount of money.

“We raised $15,255,” said Kiley Cruickshank, who organized Sunday’s event with her sister-in-law, Melanie Chmelik. “This is a record for Paris and we are beyond thrilled with the results.”

Cruickshank said there were more than 130 participants, including several new teams, in the run, the first in-person event since 2019.

“There were many new faces and many familiar Terry Foxers,” she said.

“It was so nice to see so many families out to carry on Terry’s legacy. It was an emotional and beautiful day with all of us back together sharing our stories.”

Due to construction, this year’s Paris run had a different route, beginning and ending at Paris District High School. Cruickshank said many participants preferred it and they may use the route again next year.

This year, about four million Canadians and nearly 600 communities participated in the Terry Fox Run. To date, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised more than $850 million for cancer research.
