Second stage of Paris-Nice this Monday, March 6 with a course tailored for sprinters.
Continuation of Paris Nice this Monday March 6 with the second stage between Bazainville and Fontainebleau (163.7 km). No difficulty is not listed on the course, but the wind could play a decisive role on the whole course and favor the fighters. Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step), Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo), Olav Kooij (Jumbo-Visma), Sam Bennett (BORA-hansgrohe) or Arnaud De Lie (Lotto Dstny) are the big favorites of the day if the teams of sprinters manage the breakaway well.
On Sunday March 5, Belgian champion Tim Merlier won in the sprint and pocketed the first leader’s jersey for Paris Nice. “It was a very tough day, particularly because of the stress in the peloton. The team was very strong and prepared the sprint perfectly. There was a very tough climb in the final, but we managed to get back into contact just before the last difficulty, and then I was dropped. But there were a few of us leading the chase, we worked together until the finish line” explained the sprinter. He is ahead in the standings Sam Benett (BORA-hansgrohe) and Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo).
As every year, the race takes place over a week from Sunday March 5, 2023 to Sunday March 12, 2023.
The route of the 81st edition of Paris Nice was unveiled on Thursday January 5, 2023.
