Because video games are not the leisure activity of just one age group, Paris Games Week is the family outing to plan for this end of the All Saints holidays. From the latest novelties to retrogaming, all generations are there!

From November 1 to 5, 2023, it is a real video game festival which will show and recognize the power of “gaming culture”. “There Paris Games Week is the event created by industry players for all communities. This year again, Paris Games Week brings together French and international players in a single place to unveil, present and test their products and services, over five days which will celebrate video games in the broadest sense.” comments James Rebours, President of the Union of Leisure Software Publishers (SELL).

France, a nation of gamers, from junior to senior

Video games are the favorite digital leisure activity of the French, by far! It is practiced by the entire French population, from the youngest to the elderly. It concerns and affects everyone: children, parents and even grandparents, who are increasingly seeking time shared with younger generations.

The number of French players reached a historic record with 39.1 million players aged 10 and over, compared to 37 million in 2022. This means that more than 7 in 10 French people (72%) play, at least occasionally, at video games. More than half of them (54%) even play regularly, i.e. at least once a week.

There are as many female players as male players among video game enthusiasts in France: 52% are men, and 48% are women. Among regular players, the distribution is 53% men and 47% women; revealing significant consolidation year after year, with a constantly increasing level of player engagement.

Paris Games Week: an outing for gaming families

Every year, it is a reality clearly visible in the aisles of Paris Games Week: video games have no age! It is more than ever an intergenerational leisure activity, as revealed by the audience at the show, as well as the statistics: 93% of 10-17 year olds and 89% of 15-24 year olds play, while 69% of adults (18 years or over ) and 49% of seniors say they are players.

Today’s parents, having themselves grown up with video games, are well aware of the family nature of the latter, a true link between generations.

Thus, 69% of parents of minor children say they play at least occasionally with their children, an increase of almost 6 points in one year! According to 64% of these same parents, this leisure activity constitutes an opportunity to share a pleasant moment with the family (+8 points vs. 2022).

PGW Junior: a space 100% dedicated to families

Celebrating children’s video game passion and the nostalgic pleasure of parents and grandparents in the same space, the PGW Junior stand is a 400 m² space entirely dedicated to families.

In a friendly and inclusive setting, visitors will be able to test, together, a diverse and varied catalog of games, made up of PEGI 3, 7 and 12 titles, on popular consoles such as the Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series /S, but also on PC.

On the stage, tournaments will be organized throughout the week, to bring players together around friendly moments, with prizes.
