(Tiper Stock Exchange) – Paris says no to rental electric scooters in the city, because they pollute and are difficult to dispose of. From now on, only private scooters can be driven, while the approx 15 thousand scooters public hire, managed by three companies, will have to be withdrawn.
This is what one established referendum held last Sunday, in which he registered 89% voted in favor of banning rental of scooters and electric scooters, while 11% voted to keep them in the city. However, it must be said that only 7% of those eligible (1.3 million people) participated in the referendum.
“Thanks to the more than 100,000 Parisians who spoke out today, it is a great victory for local democracy,” said Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo, promoter of this initiative.
A spokesman for the city government then assured that the results of the referendum will still be binding, regardless of the turnout. “Parisians have spoken out overwhelmingly against e-scooters, we will put an end to them by September 1st.”
