The Paris Aquarium makes its comeback with Babar

From September 2 to 5, 2022, for the start of the school year, the Aquarium de Paris welcomes a distinguished guest: Babar! To extend the holidays a bit, the famous elephant from illustrated children’s books is the aquarium’s mascot. For a weekend, it introduces families to marine curiosities. This will be an opportunity to participate in themed creative workshops, complete an activity booklet, take a photo with Babar, and many other things. For those who are not lucky enough to go there, a digital contest will be organized on social networks to win tickets to visit the Aquarium of Paris.

Aquarium de Paris: the opinion of the editorial staff

The Paris Aquarium Where Cineaqua features 24 tanks and 45 species of jellyfish. The goal: make visitors aware of climate issues while revealing the beauty of the oceans. A real place of wonder that invites young and old to get to know its 10,000 residents. Unique exhibitions around Marine animals are regularly offered to raise young people’s awareness of ocean protection. HAS the aquarium of Paris, the various species of fish are always united according to their environment of origin. A real respect for biodiversity. From the Seine to Polynesia, discover all the fish that can exist! There are around sixty pools allowing you to discover more than 7,500 fish and invertebrates from all the seas of France, including 2,500 jellyfish, 700 coral colonies and 50 sharks. The Paris aquarium even has the largest shark tank in France with 3 million liters of water, enough to impress young and old. You can admire these stars of the seas as if you were passing through a tunnel. Another unforgettable appointment: the basin of caresses. It will allow, especially the little ones, to touch Koi carp, all in an atmosphere inspired by the novel “Twenty thousand leagues under the sea”. An educational and fun outing, ideal for families, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.

The Medusarium, a scientific feat

After three years of work, the Paris Aquarium Medusarium inaugurated in January 2019, consists of 24 pools, where 45 different species are presented in rotation, thus revealing a diversity of shapes and colors to amaze young and old. Unlike seaside aquariums, the Aquarium de Paris operates a transformation of running water. In nature, jellyfish benefit from varied contributions of various nutrients or mineral salts, useful according to the different stages of their growth. Through their experience and thanks to scientific research, biologists are able to control the life cycle of jellyfish (whose lifespan does not exceed one year), starting with their diet. “At each water change, on average every two days, the jellyfish are decanted one by one. The smallest with a pipette, the young with a ladle, the largest in a tub… In total, each jellyfish is handled individually more than 200 times in its lifetime.“, specifies the Aquarium of Paris.

Did you know ? All jellyfish sting, but not all with the same intensity. Jellyfish are cnidarians (from the Greek Knidê, nettle), which include stinging animals. The most dangerous are fatal to humans, but most are only slightly painful.
