The route of the Olympic flame will be unveiled in a few days in the great amphitheater of the Sorbonne.
The official and definitive route of the Olympic flame will be revealed on June 23 in the great amphitheater of the Sorbonne, even if part of the route is already known. It will traditionally leave Greece and go towards Marseille aboard the famous three-master belem which should sail for ten days in the Mediterranean Sea. The Marseille city will be the first locality to welcome the torch in France on May 8. The flame will then cross around sixty territories including 5 overseas such as Guyana, Martinique, Reunion or Polynesia.
After Marseille, the flame should take the streets of Toulon, Nice and Toulouse. Montpellier, Sète and Milau should also be among the places chosen for the passage of the flame. Corsica will also receive this privilege in May in the same way as the Dordogne and New Aquitaine. It will approach Paris in July as the arrival in the capital is scheduled for July 14. Shortly before, she will have been in Seine-Maritime, in Eure-et-Loir or Val-d’Oise. In total, there will be nearly 10,000 torchbearers and 12,000 kilometers will be covered.
The Paralympic flame will also start from its historic location, which is however not identical to the Olympic flame. It will therefore not start from Greece but from Stoke Mandeville in the United Kingdom. This will undoubtedly cross the English Channel before entering French territory.
In theory, almost anyone can become an Olympic torchbearer. You must be at least 15 years old in 2023. You must be athletic and have the values of Olympism anchored in you. A recruitment campaign was already launched on June 1, 2023. A second will take effect on July 17. By 2024, there will be other recruitment phases which will be organized by the State, the CNOSF (French National Olympic and Sports Committee), the IOC, the City of Paris, the Club Paris 2024, the Greater Paris Metropolis, the Ile-de-France Region and Seine-Saint-Denis. To be selected, someone must submit your name. A raffle will also be set up.
Two captains have been designated for this Olympic flame. They are Laure Manaudou and her brother Florent. Regarding the Paralympic flame, Mona Francis and Dimitri Pavadé were chosen. With the exception of Mona Francis, they have all been medalists at the Games.
