She had then recently immigrated from another country in Europe and shortly after arriving in Sweden married a boy a few years older.
Now both the girl’s and the boy’s parents are suspected of child marriage, and risk imprisonment for up to four years. The girl’s parents are also detained, while the boy’s parents escape detention as the risk of them fleeing the country pending trial is considered low.
“Since they are resident in Sweden, we make that assessment,” says Anders Persson to SVT.
