In November last year, the shock for sci-fi fans came: Netflix lost all seasons of Star Trek: Discovery in one fell swoop. The reason: The star journeys should go back to their actual owner: Paramount. However, its streaming offer Paramount + did not yet have a German start date. That has now changed. On the occasion of the launch event in the UK, the Launch of Paramount+ in Germany announced and numerous series on offer. Also included: The best Star Trek series in years.

When does Paramount+ start in Germany?

Paramount+ starts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in December 2022. That said, the wait is far from over for Star Trek fans.

How much does the streaming service cost?

  • Paramount+ will be available as a free app for Sky Q to all Sky Cinema subscribers.
  • The streaming service will also be available independently of Sky. Then it will cost 7.99 euros per month and will be available via an app for iOS and Android as well as supported connected TV devices.

    • Strange New Worlds: With Paramount+, the best Star Trek series in years is coming to Germany

    It’s already confirmed new sci-fi series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. It tells the prehistory of the Enterprise when Captain Pike (Anson Mount) embarked on a five-year voyage of exploration into space with Spock (Ethan Peck), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) and his crew.

    Strange New Worlds differs from the current live-action series from the Star Trek universe in format. she tells Standalone stories mostly limited to single episodes and thus follows the pattern of Starship Enterprise and Starship Enterprise: The Next Century. The first season is currently running in the USA and is getting a lot of praise.

    The press release already announces that Star Trek Strange New Worlds will be part of the Paramount+ catalog in Germany. Sooner or later the same should apply to Star Trek: Discovery. The situation is less clear with Star Trek: Picard, which can currently be streamed on Amazon Prime Video, as well as the many other series and films from the sci-fi universe.

    Furthermore, series such as PAW Patrol, Scream and The First Lady were specifically announced. Several originals, some of which are in German, are being produced especially for Paramount+, including:

  • the sheikhan impostor tale by Dani Levy (Alles auf Zucker) about a family man posing as a billionaire heir.
  • A Thin Linea thriller series about hacktivists played by Saskia Rosendahl (Fabian) and Hanna Hilsdorf (Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo).
  • The Crime Series Simon Beckett’s The Chemistry of Death starring Harry Treadaway (Star Trek: Picard) and Katie Leung (The Wheel of Time), continuing Beckett’s series of novels about forensic anthropologist Dr. Adapted from David Hunter.

    • There are also a few other internationally produced originals that are intended to round off the catalogue. Paramount+ is said to offer around 9,000 hours of content as an international offering, including series from the US broadcasters CBS and Showtime.
