Actress Mayim Bialik played the well-known role of Sheldon Cooper’s girlfriend Amy Farrah Fowler in The Big Bang Theory. On closer inspection it confuses the series logic
She of all people was cast for the role.
Mayim Bialik was mentioned in the series before she even appeared in it
As the site Slashfilm recently reported, the following happened before Mayim Bialik appeared: In the 13th episode of the first season of Superbowl for Physicists (originally The Bat Jar Conjecture), the main characters Leonard, Raj and Howard are desperately looking for a fourth member for their physics bowling team.
Raj makes a reference to the series Blossom: “You know who seems to be very smart? This is the girl who played Blossom on TV. She has a PhD in neuroscience or something!”
The actress in question is no other as Mayim Bialik himself. She previously played the main character in the sitcom Blossom between 1990 and 1995. In fact, the actress has a doctorate in neuroscience in real life.
Mayim Bialik had never seen a single episode of The Big Bang Theory
Mayim Bialik herself knew little about The Big Bang Theory before joining the series:
Someone told me that I was mentioned on a previous season of Big Bang, so I thought it was a game show, I must be on Jeopardy! to have been there in response.
This probably only changed hours before her audition:
On the day of the audition, I googled Jim Parsons because they said, ‘We want a female Jim Parsons.’ Here’s how I prepared for the audition – by watching Jim Parsons on YouTube for thirty seconds. In Jessica Radloff’s book The Big Bang Theory: The Definite, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series, producer Steve Molaro revealed that early on they toyed with the idea of introducing a “female version” of Sheldon as his girlfriend but didn’t know that this would be Mayim Bialik.
Molaro also reported that series creator Chuck Lorre was excited about casting the actress in the role because she also has a doctorate in neuroscience in real life “the science and intelligence of character a certain authenticity lend”
could.
In this way, Mayim Bialik was introduced in a slightly paradoxical way. However, fans don’t seem to have minded, as the actress accompanied the series as Amy Farrah Fowler over a long period of time from the third to the final twelfth season.
