Para shooting at the 2024 Paralympic Games: rules, classification of disabilities… Info and program

Para shooting at the 2024 Paralympic Games rules classification of

The para-sport shooting takes place in Châteauroux, and runs from August 30 to September 5.

Para shooting has been part of the Paralympic programme since the Toronto 1976 Games, and involves two weapons and three shooting distances. Shooters aim at targets at 10, 25 or 50 metres with a rifle or pistol. It is a discipline reserved for athletes with a physical disability.

All para-sport shooting events take place in two stages. The first stage is a qualifying event with all competitors at the same time. The eight best scores then qualify for the final of this competition, which is played this time in direct confrontation. The final is played with an elimination system. The shooter with the lowest score is eliminated and so on until there is only one left.

A Paralympic champion is part of the French delegation present for the Paris Games. This is Cédric Fèvre-Chevalier, gold medalist in 2012 in London in 10-meter rifle shooting.

Classifications for para sport shooting

There are two classifications for para sport shooting.

  • SH1 rifle or pistol: class dedicated to athletes with lower limb disabilities. They compete standing or sitting.
  • SH2 rifle: athletes with upper limb disabilities. They have a support for fixing the rifle.
