Who will take charge of the Ministry of Labor? The person appointed to these functions will have to carry out one of the major reforms of Emmanuel Macron’s 2nd five-year term: the pension reform.
There is Matignon’s “hell”. But the Ministry of Labor could support the comparison in the weeks and months to come. Because the state administration will quickly find itself under the fire of the media and trade union spotlights. The reason ? The perilous pension reform that Emmanuel Macron wants to put in place quickly. A hot file in a context that promises to be electric that will have to manage the successor of Elisabeth Borne, while being in close contact with the new Prime Minister. In this position, you need a personality who has the confidence of Matignon and the Elysée, and whose mastery of the files is guaranteed.
When a reshuffle is imminent, the speculation machine is always very well fed, even if the information that drives it is often just rumors that tend to contradict each other. But it must be said that two names are mentioned more than others to take charge of the Ministry of Labour: that of Agnès Pannier-Runacher and that of Amélie de Montchalin. The two women seem to be appreciated by Emmanuel Macron, for quite similar qualities: ability to carry out heavy workloads, tenacity, confidence in the media, technical experience… The first, former Minister Delegate for Industry, with of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, knows Bercy very well, an asset for piloting a reform with multiple ramifications such as that of the pension system. The second, currently Minister of Transformation and the Public Service, knows the workings of the administration well. At only 36 years old, she demonstrated her skills very quickly with the close collaborators of Emmanuel Macron.
Minister of Labour, a technical portfolio
If the Ministry of Labor is not considered to be the most exposed, its scope of action is very wide, on often very delicate issues. He is responsible in particular for relations with the social partners and the reforms to be carried out on social affairs and the rules which structure the business world. The Ministry of Labor is located at 127 rue de Grenelle, in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, in the Hôtel du Châtelet.
