“We know that it is very difficult to determine the sex of a panda,” explains Kok, Zoology Manager at Ouwehands Zoo. When the animal had to be under anesthesia for a health check, the team decided to double check the gender. But vet Joost “couldn’t find him”, he tells Kok during the check. “The moment we want to look at the penis, we don’t find a penis there,” says veterinarian Joost. The animal turns out to be a girl after all.
