Örnsköldsvik loaded for party.

After seven difficult years in the hockey Allsvenskan, the team was able to decide the qualifying final against Djurgården and secure the long-awaited return to the SHL.

In the stands there were greats like Peter Forsberg and Markus Näslund cheering on the club of their hearts.

But Modo couldn’t handle the pressure.

Djurgården could go 5-2 before the home team woke up, but Modo never got closer than 5-4.

— We offer too much. It is far too bad, says Modo’s team captain Emil Wahlberg to C More.

Can decide away

Djurgården kept their SHL chance alive even if it is still advantage Modo. With a 3–2 lead, the Örnsköldsvik team can decide at Hovet in Stockholm on Friday evening.

— It’s great that we managed to win and get to return home. It will be fun, says Lukas Vejdemo to C More.

Djurgården’s defender Edvin Hammarlund made it 1-0 after 4.37 when team captain Marcus Krüger – who later had to leave with an injury – obscured home goalkeeper Kristers Gudlevskis.

“I get an open street and it’s a good twilight of Krüger, so I just had to aim,” the hill says to C More.

Djurgården lined up opportunities to go away immediately after the goal and Emil Berglund missed an open position when he did not get a shot on the puck.

However, Marcus Vela lit up Hägglund’s arena when he equalized after 11.39.

Broke the goal drought

Then Liam Öhgren stepped forward.

Djurgården’s 19-year-old promise, who belongs to Minnesota, is the team’s top scorer in the playoffs – but had not scored in eight games.

Now he twisted the puck from Daniel Brickley at his own blue line and took advantage of the free position until 2–1.

At the beginning of the second period, Krüger won the puck after hard work and released Öhgren, who ice coldly put the puck between the leg pads of Gudlevskis. Öhgren’s eighth goal in the playoffs.

The home team’s Marcus Vela scored two goals after 8.35, but just over two minutes after the reduction, Djurgården scored 4–2. Lukas Vejdemo was behind the goal and fenced the puck in via the skates of home forward Erik Jinesjö Karlsson.

When Jonathan Lekkerimäki spot-kicked 5-2 at the beginning of the third period, Modo looked calculated.

Then came a strong sprint from the home team.

Sebastian Ohlsson reduced to 3–5 after 8.55 and just 1.41 later Jinesjö Karlsson was able to make it 4–5 after a goal by Djurgård goalkeeper Jesper Myrenberg. He gave the puck to Sebastian Ohlsson behind the goal who found Jinesjö Karlsson in front of the abandoned box.

But Modo didn’t get further than that and Lukas Vejdemo made it 6-4 in an empty net.
