On Monday, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) will meet his Finnish counterpart Petteri Orpo in Stockholm. Among other things, they will discuss the deteriorating security situation in Europe and cooperation within NATO.
In connection with the Swedish-Finnish government meeting, the countries’ defense ministers, Pål Jonson and Antti Häkkänen, will present a new development of defense cooperation at 12.00.
According to information to The Swedish Daily Sweden will lead the new NATO base to be located in northern Finland.
The force to be stationed in Finnish Lapland is a so-called forward land force, FLF (Forward Land Forces). A NATO staff for ground operations is also to be located in the country, according to SvD. The new NATO base will be under Swedish command, according to several independent sources to the newspaper.
