The basic allowance is included in the Early Childhood Benefit. Conditions for receiving it, amount and duration of this aid: we take stock.
When a child arrives, the parents benefit from the Childcare benefit (Paje). This includes the birth or adoption grant, the shared child education benefit (PreParE), the supplement for free choice of childcare (CMG) as well as the basic allowance.
From when is the basic allowance paid?
The basic allowance is paid to young parents from the second month of their child. The aid is then paid monthly until they are no longer entitled to it.
Who can receive the basic allowance?
To receive the basic allowance, you must meet the general conditions for receiving family benefits and have a child under 3 years old or a child under 20 in the event of adoption. It can be combined with other aid, such as the daily parental presence allowance (AJPP) and the family support allowance. However, it cannot be combined with the family supplement.
What are the ceilings for benefiting from the basic allowance?
Paje’s basic allowance is also means-tested. To receive it in 2023, here are the resource ceilings (in force until December 31, 2023) not to have been exceeded in 2021 to receive the basic allowance at the full rate:

What is the amount of the basic allowance?
The Paje is paid according to the parents’ income, at full or partial rate, for a period of three years. The monthly amount is 182 euros per month at the full rate and 91.01 euros at the partial rate. To find out if you are entitled to it and how much you will receive, you can go to the CAF simulator.
For how long is the basic allowance paid?
The basic allowance is paid until the month preceding the child’s 3rd birthday. In the case of an adoption, it is paid for a minimum of 12 months within the limit of the child’s 20th birthday.
Can I receive the basic allowance for several children?
A household can only receive the basic allowance for one child : if you were entitled to it for your eldest child of 3 years and you have a baby, you will only receive it for the baby. An exception is provided for in the event of multiple births or adoptions. In this situation, “as many basic allowances are paid as there are children born of the same childbirth or adopted simultaneously”specifies the Caf website.
