Paavo Nurmi Games aiming for the Diamond League starts Nordic

The athletics competition held in Turku begins cooperation with the Diamond League competitions in Stockholm and Oslo. The goal of the event is to move up to the Diamond League in 2029.

The Paavo Nurmi Games, an international athletics competition organized in Turku, will cooperate with the Diamond League competitions in Stockholm and Oslo. These three competitions will form next summer’s top Nordic week of athletics, as they will be organized in one week from the 12th to the 17th. June.

– The cooperation of the three top Nordic athletics events is one key element for us in building the path towards promotion to the Diamond League, Paavo Nurmi CEO of the PN Turku company that organizes the Games Jari Salonen stated In the sports association’s announcement.

Paavo Nurme’s competitions currently belong to the highest gold level of the Continental Tour of the International Association of Athletics Federations. The goal of the event is to reach the number one tour of the sport, i.e. the Diamond League in 2029.

According to Salonen, the goal is to build a sports complex of three competitions in such a way that individual athletes could participate in two or maybe even three competitions during the week. The Paavo Nurmi Games will be held next summer on June 17. The Diamond League will be played in Oslo on June 12 and in Stockholm on June 15.

– Here the Oslo and Stockholm diamond league sports, the Turku sports and the Oslo and Stockholm sports that do not belong to the Diamond League are synchronized as a whole. It has been agreed between the organizers of the competitions that we will be ready to tell the sport programs to the athletes and managers in January, Salonen stated.
