As part of its strategy to improve traffic safety, Oxford County will be introducing 20 new community safety zones in the coming weeks.

These safety zones – part of the several speed-management and traffic-calming measures being adopted by the county – are provincially designated areas that reflect special road safety concerns. Marked by road signs, these zones are generally placed near schools, community centers, recreation areas, playgrounds, hospitals and long-term homes or seniors’ residences.

The community safety zone designation allows for increased speeding fines, as well as the use of photo radar for enforcement.
After reviewing a list of potential sites during a 2022 study, county staff presented 21 locations that met the criteria for community safety zones to county council in February. With the approval of this report, 20 new community safety zones will be “installed” in November in Beachville, Bright, Drumbo, Harrington, Hickson, Ingersoll, Innerkip, Kintore, Norwich, Otterville, Tavistock, Thamesford and Woodstock.
Maps highlighting the location of each new community safety zone can be found at the Oxford County website at www.oxfordcounty.ca/en/Public-Notice/2023/Maps/CSZ-Maps—All-Areas.pdf. Other information about road safety measures in Oxford County can be found at www.oxfordcounty.ca/roadsafety2023.
