“When I drove up here this morning, as a camper I would have turned around immediately,” says Ramon van Reine. The camping season officially started this weekend, the campsite on the Voorveldse Polder is also open again. But the place doesn’t really invite. Van Reine is director of ACSI, a company that publishes camping guides, among other things. It contains campsites in Europe, with a description. Every year, hundreds of inspectors are on the road on behalf of the company to inspect campsites. Reine is not happy with the sight of the Utrecht campsite and because it does not meet the minimum requirements, it is not in his guide. “In the Netherlands we have a very high standard in terms of quality, we have very good campsites. And I find it unbelievable that there is such a site near a large city like Utrecht.”
