With the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, director Peter Jackson has adapted the vast world from JRR Tolkien’s book as an impressive cinematic adventure.

Today the second part of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is on TV. It is particularly impressive the overwhelming battle for Helm’s Deep. An action milestone that is rarely seen in such an epic way in the fantasy genre.

Outstanding Lord of the Rings battle was incredibly elaborate

The highlight of the three-hour-long The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is the 40-minute Battle of Helm’s Deep. Here Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli & Co. defend the eponymous fortress against a huge army of Uruk-hai.

Filming this massive battle took 120 days, or four months! A total of 20 hours of material were filmed, from which the 40-minute passage was then edited.

There the scenes of the battle 75 percent shot at night the sequence required a lot of effort. This was also because the extreme rain in the scenes had to be poured on the people involved in the form of gigantic masses of water.

In addition, there was no unnecessary use of CGI, meaning that the majority of the characters were played by real extras. Combined with the epic action and emotional weight of the sequence, the Battle of Helm’s Deep may be the highlight of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy.
