Overwatch pro loses job but only found out on Twitter

Last minute The world stood up after Putins decision in

Social media is probably the last place people want to know about their release. But that’s exactly what happened to the Overwatch pro “Myunbong”.

Who is the person you are talking about? Sang-min “Myunbong” Seo is 23 years old and most recently played a support role for Overwatch team New York Excelsior. He played Ana and Zenyatta, among others.

Myunbong only joined the team in January 2022, having previously played for the Boston Uprising for almost two years. But after just over half a year, it’s over again: NY Excelsior has separated from the 23-year-old.

Apparently, Myunbong didn’t find out about this until after everyone else did – via a tweet from his former team, which has over 130,000 followers on Twitter.

Big back and forth on Twitter about the Overwatch pro

The New York Excelsior (NYXL) team apparently posted a farewell statement on Twitter, thanking their team for the pro’s time.

Myunbong only responded to the now-deleted post with a question mark:

That raised questions in the comments as to whether Myunbong even knew about his firing. As a result, NYXL came back onto the scene. Because apparently this statement should not actually go out yet.

The thank you statement was posted to Myunbong, but it was previously neglected to coordinate this with the team: “We take full responsibility, that cannot be excused,” the team writes via Twitter.

NYXL also addressed Myunbong directly: “We are very sorry for our miscommunication and for putting you in this situation. While we wish it had been communicated better, we really appreciate your time with us and wish you all the best in the future.”

Myunbong himself later spoke up on Twitter and explained that a dismissal was an issue in a feedback session, but it happened very suddenly.

“The sudden news that it was the result of a mistake by another department on the team, and the fact that I haven’t heard about the possibility of my being fired, feels very unjustified. GL NYXL,” Myunbong writes in the most recent tweet on the subject.

Exactly why the big miscommunication happened is still unclear, as is the actual reason for the breakup. However, Myunbong is no longer listed on the team’s active roster page – so the farewell seems final.

It’s not the first time weird situations have arisen around Overwatch. Another example: A few weeks ago, a setup for a major tournament in Overwatch caused irritation.
