Overwatch fans have been waiting for this for a long time, now there is finally a feature that provides a better overview – and is standard in other games.
Overwatch 2 has a wild and eventful history. In addition to several scandals surrounding the discarded PvE mode, the questionable monetization and the possible upcoming return to “6vs6”, there is always criticism and requests for changes. Now, however, Blizzard has “smuggled” an innovation into the game that will hopefully become standard soon.
In Overwatch 2 there was “Overwatch Classic” a few weeks ago:
What is this feature? We’re talking about a new, optional element in the interface. So far you can only see your own life points at the bottom left of the screen, but I might change that soon. In the last variant of “Quick Play: Hacked” you have the option of also displaying the life bars and the status of all team members. This means you can always see directly what your team’s health is or how long it will take until an ally appears.
Where does the feature come from? This small interface upgrade was originally developed for the PvE mode, but was only used in the few published missions before the game mode was completely canceled and led to the biggest outcry from the Overwatch community ever.
Even if the PvE missions were unpopular and far below Blizzard’s expectations, at least the team health display was extremely popular. Otherwise it was not possible to see the HP or the status of the team members. Otherwise, this is only possible if you pan the camera around in a panic and make sure where every allied character is – and you usually don’t have much time for that.
This is how the community reacts: The feature is also being actively discussed in the Overwatch 2 subreddit and is very well received. The currently largest contribution to this comes with a whopping 96% approval – i.e. an overwhelming majority who want the feature permanently.
Everything currently indicates that this was just a test run by Blizzard to see how the feature works exactly and whether it is well received by the community. At least this test seems to have been quite successful: If you are more interested in shooters – we have presented the 10 best of 2024 to you here.
