The Overwatch 2 Bronze 5 curse, or rather the bug in the game, prevented Bronze 5 players from leveling up.
The Overwatch 2 Bronze 5 curse is a different curse than the “Bronze 5″s in other games. Namely, players who fall into Bronze 5 cannot get out of Bronze 5 no matter how many matches they win, except for playing against players with very high MMR (Gold or even Grandmaster) than them. Yes, if you drop to Bronze 5 in Overwatch 2, you’re falling into an inescapable prison. That is, until Blizzard fixed the bug that caused it.

Although Overwatch 2 was criticized for “not adding much to the new game” and the Battle Pass system, the daily player count broke the record and easily reached millions of players. In such a popular game, it’s obvious how badly a bug would get a bug that prevented Bronz 5 players from advancing no matter how many matches they win.
Overwatch 2 players have expressed their complaints about the issue on reddit:
“I was stuck in Bronze 5, where the worst matches ever played,” wrote Illuminaso, “Some of the players in the matches come from Bronze 5, but some come from the Grandmaster, there is no such thing as MMR.”
User SeeOurTea also wrote that he heard of players who could not rise from Bronze 5 even though they won 7 games in a row.
After the bug is fixed, players will have a chance to be promoted from Bronze 5. However, it is stated that the points earned during the error period will not be reflected in the accounts of the players.
