Dawn Olver and James Doucet were forced out of their Wellington Street home at about 3 am Sunday. They lost everything in the fire including clothing.
Their daughter – Tiffany Alexandra Orvis – posted a short Expositor article about the fire and issued a plea for help. Specifically, she was looking for clothing for the couple.
Several people responded with offers of help and Orvis spent part of her Sunday collecting donations.
“I just got done dropping some clothes off to my parents,” Orvis said by way of a social media message to The Expositor. “They’re housed in a hotel for the night, move to another hotel tomorrow and then I believe they’re on their own to find housing with insurance.”

Fast action by residents resulted in waking up an elderly neighbor and getting the neighbor to safety.
The fire destroyed one half of a duplex and caused some fire damage to the other half. No people were injured but two pets, a cat and a dog were lost in the fire.
Orvis is grateful for the support shown by residents who stepped up to help her parents.
“Brantford certainly has helped graciously,” Orvis said.
The damage to the home is so severe it is now uninhabitable and unsafe to enter.
A Brantford fire prevention officer was on the scene Sunday afternoon.
As of Sunday, a cause for the fire hadn’t yet been determined and the blaze remains under investigation.
