A total of around 100,000 adult patients a year are affected by care injuries in Swedish hospitals. Overcrowding and moving patients increase the risks.
According to the National Board of Health and Welfare, care injuries are 60 percent more common among out-of-state patients, i.e. patients who are cared for in a care unit other than the one that has specific competence and medical responsibility for the patient.
Between 6,000 and 7,000 out-of-state patients suffer injuries from care each year.
