The voodoo priest told the gang boss that the old people living in the capital’s slum area had caused this child to fall ill with witchcraft.
In Haiti, which is located in the Caribbean, a criminal gang killed at least 110 people over the weekend after the gang leader’s child fell ill and the cause of the illness was suspected to be witchcraft.
The National Human Rights Defense Network (RNDDH) reports on the massacre in Cité Soleil, one of the poorest areas of the capital Port-au-Prince.
According to the RNDDH, the leader of a gang group called Viv Ansanm Monel “Mikano” Felix the child fell ill, and the father asked the local voodoo priest for advice. This had said that the cause of the child’s illness was the elderly people living in the slum area of the capital, who had caused the child to become ill with witchcraft.
Because of this, the gang boss ordered a massacre, where gang members killed at least 60 people with machetes on Friday and at least 50 on Saturday. All those killed were over 60 years old, says RNDDH.
It is difficult to get information about the massacre, because the city’s gangs restrict the use of cell phones.
Violent gangs have driven the Caribbean’s poorest country into complete chaos in recent years.
