Over 6,000 prisoners escaped from security prison
At least 6,000 prisoners have escaped from a high-security prison outside the Mozambican capital, Maputo. Many fled on Christmas Day after a riot broke out at the prison.
More than 30 prisoners were killed in clashes and more injured, according to the country’s police chief, Bernardino Rafael.
The escape began after a “subversive group began agitating” inside the prison, the police chief said on Monday, adding that 29 of those who escaped were “convicted terrorists”. A group of prisoners were able to steal weapons from prison guards and then freed additional prisoners.

There is a fire in an apartment building in Vara municipality.
The emergency services were called to the scene at 5:30 p.m.
– There is a heavy fire in the entire property, which is an area of around 800 square metres, says Simon Rosén at the rescue service.
The fire has spread to at least four stairwells.
– When we received calls about the fire, people were still in the building. We have evacuated many people, but we do not know how many, nor do we know if there are people still in the building.

When the police arrived at the scene, the driver had left.
The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance. But her life could not be saved.
Relatives have been notified.

He has been arrested on suspicion of grossly causing the death of another, gross negligence in traffic, drugged driving and illegally leaving the scene of a traffic accident.

Among the dead in 2024 are roughly 1,500 children and 421 women. April and May were the two months with the highest number of deaths.

Israel has carried out several airstrikes against targets in Yemen, several media reports.
The attacks have been carried out against the airport in the capital Sanaa, a military base and a power plant in the port city of Hodeida.
The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, was at Sanaa’s airport when the attack took place writes the BBC.
– When we were about to board our flight from Sanaa, the airport came under aerial bombardment, he says.
He says one of the plane’s crew members was injured.
At least two people are said to have died in the attack.
Israel confirms it has carried out the attacks.
“These infrastructures were used by the Huthi terrorist regime to transfer Iranian weapons to the region and for the entry of senior Iranian officials,” the IDF said in a statement.
On Wednesday, the Houthi movement fired a ballistic robot and two drones at Israel, and on Saturday, 16 people in Tel Aviv were injured by a robot in another attack by the Houthi movement.
Patient was vaccinated with a used needle
The incident took place at a reception in the region where the patient went to get vaccinated. Due to, among other things, high patient pressure, the routines were not followed correctly and the patient was vaccinated with the same needle as the previous patient.
