More than 50 people have been killed in fighting in an area claimed by both Sudan and South Sudan, the UN says. Among the dead are two from the UN peacekeeping forces.
Fighting in the oil-rich region of Abyei broke out over the weekend, according to local authorities.
UNISFA, the UN peacekeeping force in the region, states that it “strongly condemns these attacks on civilians and peacekeeping forces”.
According to UNISFA, which refers to local authorities, a further 64 people are said to be seriously injured.
