During Saturday morning, at least 16 people died and 22 were injured when three vehicles collided between the cities of Gaziantep and Nizip.

Barely twelve hours later, a truck drove into a crowd in the town of Derik, 20 miles to the east. Here, too, at least 16 people died, 29 have been reported injured.

“The accident was caused by the brakes not working on the truck, which drove into a crowd,” writes the country’s health minister on Twitter.
