So far this year, more than 2,500 migrants have died or disappeared on their way to Europe across the Mediterranean.
This is shown by a compilation made by the UN refugee agency UNHCR.
The figure is a marked increase compared to 2022, when 1,680 migrants disappeared across the Mediterranean throughout the year.
