Over 15,000 dead after the earthquake: “We need help”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The death toll continues to rise after the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. Now roughly 15,000 deaths have been confirmed.

At the same time, the increasingly desperate search for survivors continues. An aggravating circumstance is freezing temperatures. Survivors with nowhere to go are forced to warm themselves with blankets and in front of open fires.

– There were four people in there, we took two out and two are left. We hear their voices and they respond to us. We need emergency personnel. I appeal to the whole world and to the international community. We need help to be able to save our children, says Abdulqader Barakat, survivor in Antakya.

There is a sense of desperation among many that the delivery of machines to excavate the rubble is delayed.

– The excavators only arrived today. We are trying to arrange excavators with our own funds and also clear the rubble ourselves, but it is unfortunately too difficult for us, says Serap Arslan in Antakya.
