Over 100 managers stomach sick – bacteria the cause

It was E.coli bacteria that was behind the major stomach disease outbreak in Jönköping, local media reports.

A total of 104 municipal managers in Jönköping suffered from diarrhoea, vomiting and severe stomach pains after a conference at the Elmia fair.

Samples show that so-called E.coli bacteria were behind the stomach disease outbreak, but the source of the bacteria is still unclear.

– The fact that we now know which bacteria it is means that we can focus on likely foods that have become contaminated. We probably need to trace how and where a specific product was produced, says Niclas Purfürst, head of the environmental and health protection office in Jönköping, to SVT Jönköping.
