Some franchises ride themselves to death and then disappear into obscurity forever. But sometimes it happens that a huge surprise suddenly puts the series back in the spotlight. That’s exactly what happened with Puss in Boots: The Last Wish from the Shrek Universe, which is coming to free TV for the first time today.
That’s what Puss in Boots 2, the sequel to the Shrek spin-off, is all about
Puss in Boots is living his life to the fullest when he is suddenly reminded in the most unpleasant way that he already eight of his nine cat lives used up has. There’s only one thing that helps: new lives are needed! But where do you get it from and don’t steal it, especially in such a difficult case? It’s clear: your last wish can help.
So the cat, originally voiced by Antonio Banderas, sets off Search for the legendary last wish. He is helped by Kitty Velvet Paw and his new sidekick Perro, a dog. However, the illustrious group is pursued by a mysterious villain who not only brings with him tons of bounty hunters, but also a mysterious shadow.
Puss in Boots 2 surprised everyone and single-handedly saved the entire Shrek franchise
The last Shrek films, like the first spin-off Puss in Boots, couldn’t match the magic and wit of the first Shrek film. Eleven years after the first offshoot The big surprise came in 2022 in the form of the successor The Last Wish. Suddenly it wasn’t just the story and characters that were convincing real risks were taken.
The film completely abandons the style of its predecessors and instead relies on a visual identity that is most reminiscent of films like Spider-Man: A New Universe.
With a bit of luck expect us again in the future more flicks from the venerable Shrek franchisewhich will then hopefully find their way back to their old shape and size. Shrek 5 has already been confirmed and could perhaps even hit cinemas this year.
