One of the biggest problems with electric cars is that they are very sensitive to air resistance, and when you install a roof box before the holidays, the range is therefore significantly affected.
For that reason, it can be tempting to find ways to reduce the air resistance of the roof box, and one such was found a few years ago by Tesla Club Sweden.
They mounted the roof box facing backwards, and found that they got the same range as when driving with only the roof rails mounted. Having the barrel of the box all the way back creates less turbulence.
With the right-facing box, consumption increased by as much as 16 percent.

Driving with the cap backwards and forwards, so to speak, has since become popular among electric car drivers. However, this should be taken care of, warns Emma Kostolnyproduct manager at Thule, in an interview with The evening paper.
– Turning the roof box over can be downright dangerous, it is not designed for the back end to go first, she says.
– If there is a crash, there are no reinforcements in the rear end, in the same way as there are in the front of the roof box.

Aftonbladet points out that there are alternatives to driving with the roof box at the back and front, where you avoid the risks mentioned above.

Calix, for example, builds a box that is thick at the front and thin at the back end, and therefore appears to be mounted backwards. You can also choose a so-called rear box, which is mounted on the towbar instead of on the roof. A box of this type can even improve the range of the car.
