Synthetic ice rink part of Family Day celebration

A free community pop-up skating party is coming to the Simcoe fairgrounds on Family Day.

Families are invited to enjoy skating on a Glice outdoor synthetic ice rink, listen to music, and play hockey-themed games at the Norfolk County Fairgrounds on Monday, Feb. 20.

There will be free coffee and hot chocolate, while supplies last, as well as a food truck to purchase food, said an announcement from the Norfolk County Agricultural Society, operators of the Norfolk County Fair and fairgrounds.

Gliceis promoted as a waterless zero-energy technology for sustainable skating in any climate, year-round, indoors and outdoors. It looks and acts just like the real thing.

The event, held between 11 am and 4 pm at 172 South Drive, is rain or shine.

The agricultural society is encouraging everyone to bring their own skates for a day of family fun. There will be hockey nets available, and skill challenges.

For those that require skates, a limited variety will be available to use.

The skating part is one of several upcoming community events planned by the agricultural society.

Next on the calendar is Eat & Drink Norfolk, April 13-15 at the Simcoe Aud.

The event, for those 19 years and older, is a celebration of what the community has to offer and features food and a variety of wines, craft beer, and cider.

New this year is the addition of an after-party pavilion, adjacent to the Aud. The after-party will be open late to continue the music and dancing. Tickets will soon be available at norfolkcountyfair.com.

Norfolk Night Market is also back in 2023. On June 9-10, artisan market vendors, local beer, wine and cider, food trucks, games, live local music, local tourism operators, and a festival atmosphere will converge on the fairgrounds.

Two nights of headline concerts with ‘the big stage’ in front of the grandstands will be added this year. The concerts are in partnership with Norfolk County, as part of the Amplify Norfolk initiative.

Just like at the Norfolk County Fair’s Party at the Track, it will include a VIP section. Details will be announced soon. The event will be a separate ticket event to the Norfolk Night Market.

And we can’t forget the biggest event of all. The fair board of directors, staff, and volunteer committees are at work planning the Oct. 3-9 2023 Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show.
