The outbreaks are on B6, B7 and B8 medical floors where visitors are now restricted unless for compassionate reasons.

While the hospital has not yet provided the number of those involved in the outbreak, according to Ontario public health, a hospital outbreak is two or more lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in patients and / or staff within a unit where the cases could have been acquired in the hospital.

The Willett Hospital also declared an outbreak this week on Jan. 6 after five people in the transitional care unit tested positive for the virus.

In a news release, the Brant Community Healthcare System said the protection of staff, physicians and patients remains its top priority and it continues to work diligently to bring a safe and timely end to the outbreaks.

Safety protocols put in place include enhanced cleaning, screening all who enter one of the facilities, mandatory masking, use of PPE, limiting visitors and contact tracing of those impacted.

These are the seventh and second outbreaks for the General and Willett facilities. The most severe outbreaks were at the General in April 2020 when two people died and April 2021 when one person died. At the Willett, the worst outbreak in the pandemic was in August 2021 when there were two deaths.
