An unusually high number of cases of the disease have been reported during April. It is about ten cases of illness where all have been infected in Sweden. Why the increase occurred is unclear. The disease mainly affects men who have sex with men, but can also be transmitted through close skin contact. “As before, we recommend that people with a higher risk of infection get vaccinated against mpox,” says deputy state epidemiologist at the Public Health Agency in a press release. Anyone who is at risk of having been exposed to mpox is urged to contact healthcare as soon as possible. Typical symptoms of mpox are blisters or sores that are usually on the face, hands and feet, in and around the mouth, genitals and anal opening. The incubation period is usually 6–13 days.
